Cosmopolitan with a Grapefruit Twist

One of the first cocktails I had when I moved to London 8 years ago was a Cosmopolitan from a temporary bar set up in Canary Wharf square at a free summer Rat Pack tribute show.  It rained of course and I had a lovely evening but the important takeaway from the story is that I’ve been mainlining Cosmopolitans ever since.

And they’re pretty easy to make at home. Yay.

I have a couple of martini glasses which I can serve these in but to be honest, you can serve them in any glass, even a tumbler. Try to avoid using a mug. Nothing cold tastes good out of a mug.

I also have a relatively cheap cocktail shaker which is handy and worth the investment if you’re going to make cocktails on any kind of regular basis but you can just use a bowl or jug and give it a good stir. Don’t tell Bond however, he would not be amused.

Serves 2 (The below pic is a big glass and contains both servings – dangerous!)

Ingredients:

100ml Finlandia Grapefruit Vodka (or any other Vodka to be honest)
50ml Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)
75ml Cranberry Juice
Ice
Orange Peel for garnish (if you can be bothered)

3/4 fill the cocktail shaker with Ice Cubes (not the crushed ice) and add 100ml Finlandia Grapefruit Vodka50ml Cointreau and 75ml Cranberry Juice.

Screw the lid onto the cocktail shaker tightly and shake for 15-25 seconds. Or longer if you’re pretending to be Tom Cruise.

Pour the cocktail into the glass leaving the ice behind and serve.  Garnish with Orange Peel if you can be bothered (I had none).

Tip – Most cocktail shakers will have a strainer built in, otherwise use a small tea sieve or a regular sieve if you’re really stuck.

Beware, its strong!
